Jed and I will be celebrating our 15 year anniversary later this summer. We decided that the end of May was the best time for us to get away and since his sister, Alana is there in Alaska working we wanted to go there. She is a waitress in a restaurant in Seward Alaska which is about 2 hours South of Anchorage. We flew late Friday night from Salt Lake to Anchorage. We stayed the night in Anchorage and after getting a rental car, stopped at Costco for some food. Alana has a small cabin about the size of a large shed that she shares with a roommate but she also has to share a kitchen with all the other employees which you can imagine makes it hard to cook. She does have a small fridge in her cabin so we came armed with string cheese, V-8, granola bars and lots of fruit. There's only one grocery store in Seward so the prices are high. When we arrived, it was the end of her shift so after checking with the front desk and acquiring some free passes, (I'm telling you she has great connections if you go!) we went to Safeway for groceries and the Sea Life Center in downtown Seward. It is a great place to get more acquainted with the marine life in the area. They have a great Sea Lion and Seal exhibit as well as lots of information about the local fishing and all the ways the center is working to save the animal life all around Alaska when animals and mammals get injured or are sick. The center is right on the Bay and even though it was cloudy and rainy it was still a beautiful view! We later had dinner at a local restaurant and did a little shopping for our kids at home who being taken care of by Jed's brother and sister in law (Thanks again!). Our oldest was also spending the weekend with Jed's other brother in Kamas and had a great time fishing with him. He even caught a 14 inch fish! And thanks to my mom for taking the first shift Friday night! They had so much fun watching Kung Fu Panda 2, walking to church, going to Fillmore to swim in some hot pots (hot springs) and after an hour Leah was convinced she could get in and it was fun. They also did lazer tag and the highlight which they're still talking about was having the amazing Bangkok at our house. The first time ever a dog moved in! We are incredibly blessed to have our wonderful family make it possible for this once in a lifetime experience. We hope someday to show our kids Alaska as well but this was a great memory to share with Jed! . . . and Alana who said that since it was our anniversary wouldn't ask to share our room. . .thanks sis!
