The Holiday started out with Jed and I leaving the kids with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Wade and Aunt Alana while we drove to Capital Reef for a run. We parked at Visitor's Center and ran about 4 miles to the turn off of Grand Wash then turned around and ran home, so about 8 miles total. What a gift! It was bright and sunny and clear blue skies and not very cold. Jed and I don't run together very often and he was great to let me lead the pace, a few times I would encourage him to go ahead and wait for me especially on the long uphills but I kept up pretty good. It felt so awesome when we were done and I'm so grateful for my body that I can do something like this with my husband and actually enjoy it. Perfect setting, too. Then we went back and dinner was almost all done (sorry Mom!) and we had a delicious traditional dinner and lots of laughter and joy. After dinner (you know, like 20 minutes later!), I took Leah to the neighbor's house where we were staying and put her down for a nap while the rest of the crazy group hiked down the bluff to our "hut" which we've been working on now for about 3 years. Every time we go to Torrey, the boys fix up the hut by moving rocks and logs and sticks so it looks a bit authentic and every year the wind blows parts of it down so they go back and fix it again. We've also stuck a notebook in the hut so people can visit and log their name and where they are from (it is very visible from the main road to the park). We've gotten people from all over the world who will write their names. It's pretty exciting! Anyway, they spent the whole afternoon down at the hut so afterward we were ready for a fun movie "UP" and some pie! It was a great day! The kids also have a tradition where they build very complex lego models with Wade and Alana. They work on them the whole weekend. Way to go! I prefer a puzzle myself.
