On Friday, Jed's parents took us to an obscure place just outside of Escalante National Monument (Think President Clinton) where we parked on the side of the highway and walked through a river bed for about 2 miles to some really beautiful vistas. There are petroglyphs on the walls of the cliffs and huge red rock domes with the wonderful green junipers and clear blue skies. We were in heaven! The best part of hiking in Southern Utah is being able to scale the red rock and not lose your footing, the kids loved to run around. Even Leah was given a chance to be out of her backpack for awhile. Although that was a bit terrifying for me with the cliffs. Jed's brother Wade and sister Alana were with us and made it even more fun by taking one of the kids and spending time with them. Wade showed Devon how to point out animal tracks in the sand and Alana took Rachel off and just hiked around (all within view, of course, I mean its so easy to get lost!). We adore being with them and are so grateful for their presence in our lives.
