On Friday afternoon we took the boat shuttle to the actual island of Alcatraz. There you are given a headset to listen to while you walk through the prison. It was really interesting, a bit long for the kids, but we liked being inside the buildings because there were creepy and cool. The next morning Jed and his brother Clay did the swim. It's called Escape from Alcatraz (1.6 miles from shore).
